Jensen Ford

Jensen Ford Records Second Win of the Season at Volunteer Speedway

After seeing his last several attempts to race thwarted by Mother Nature, Jensen Ford was finally able to return to action over the weekend in his Mike Whitehead Racing No. 83 Whitehead Construction Inc./ TNT Race Car/ Eagle Racing Engine Late Model.

Ford showed speed throughout the weekend, but the highlight came on Saturday night, when he topped the Crate Late Model action at Tennessee’s Volunteer Speedway. The victory was his second of the 2019 season.

“After being rained out the past several weeks, it was a nice change of pace to be able to get back to action this weekend,” Ford commented. “We had a strong chance to win on Friday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway, but the track was pretty rough and knocked the radiator out about 10 laps in while leading. Then, things went flawless on Saturday night at Volunteer Speedway, and we got the win. We were fast out of the box at Wythe Raceway on Sunday night, but rain got us again.

“All in all, our team was pretty pleased with our results, and we’ll look to get another win this Saturday at Toccoa.”

The weekend opened on Friday night Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee), where the American Crate All-Star Series posted a $2,000 top prize. Jensen hit the ground running by setting fast time in qualifying to earn the pole for the feature. He was leading on lap-10, when he hit a bump, knocking the radiator out. He retired to a 22nd-place finish.

On Saturday night, Ford rolled into Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee). He made a clean sweep of the program by setting fast time in qualifications before leading every lap of the feature to claim his second win of 2019. He was followed across the finish line by Rusty Ballenger, Jason Welshan, Tim Maupin and Gary Crittenden.

The holiday weekend of racing drew to a close on Sunday night at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Virginia). Ford qualified second fastest in the 24-car field for the American Crate All-Star Series event. Unfortunately, rain arrived after qualifying, forcing officials to postpone the evet until August 17.
